13Ivor Gaber is an expert practitioner, consultant, teacher and researcher in the media in general and political journalism in particular.

Currently Professor of Political Journalism at the University of Sussex, he has published a wide range of books, chapters and articles about many aspects of journalism and political communications and is a frequent keynote speaker at conferences in the UK and internationally.

His research is underpinned by his wide broadcast experience as a reporter, producer and programme editor with BBC TV and Radio, ITN, Channel Four and Sky News, and has written about politics for a range of national newspapers and magazines. Ivor’s independent production company was responsible for televising the Westminster Parliament and he is an election consultant to ITV News.

His radio company has made programmes for BBC Radio 4, 5Live and the World Service. He is also frequently used as an expert commentator on radio and television both in Britain and abroad.

Ivor has a strong commitment to media development. He has devised and run training courses and media projects for journalists in new and post-conflict democracies in Africa, Asia and Europe.

He represents the UK at the UN body responsible for overseeing press freedom, based at UNESCO in Paris, was an Independent Editorial Adviser to the (now defunct) BBC Trust and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

In addition, Ivor has extensive experience consulting and training private and public sector bodies and executives in crisis management and media presentation.
